Roy Keane has held talks with Celtic and will tell the club next week if he is ready to join them.
The former Manchester United captain has been courted by a host of clubs since his departure from Old Trafford and his lawyer Michael Kennedy claims Celtic is an option which interests him.
He said: "There have been talks with lots of clubs - including Celtic. Roy has one or two more clubs still to see and there will be a decision during the course of next week."
Everton on Friday joined the queue of clubs showing an interest in Keane, following West Brom, West Ham and Manchester City.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harry Redknapp has informed Southampton he regards "his employment with the club as being at an end", according to club chairman Rupert Lowe.
Lowe's announcement comes after he had turned down a request from Portsmouth to approach Redknapp about the vacant manager's job at Fratton Park. Dave Bassett was placed in temporary charge of the team for Saturday's match against Burnley.
Lowe added he intends to report the matter to the Premier League. He said: "As far as I am concerned even if there has not been a breach of rules there has been a breach of courtesy and basic good manners."
Lowe added: "On Wednesday, November 30 I was contacted by Dennis Roach (a football agent) who told me that I was likely to receive a request from Portsmouth to allow them to speak to Harry about their managerial vacancy.
"It's not often that I am lost for words but I was then. Not only because this is the most extraordinary story in an extraordinary industry but because I believed Harry to be here for the long term.
"On Thursday I spoke to Harry, who told me that he had been considering his future and that he believed Portsmouth to be his 'spiritual home'."
The Saints chairman informed Portsmouth director Peter Storrie he would not grant permission to approach Redknapp unless Southampton were paid "the unexpired portion of Harry's contract which is the usual convention in these circumstances".
Lowe added: "I was promised an answer which to date has never come. I spoke to Harry again late on Friday night to agree arrangements for Saturday's important game against Burnley.
"Harry said it was now impossible for him to come back to the club and that, in his words, he had been let down.
"He told me he regarded his employment with the club as being at an end and we would deal with the necessary paperwork at the beginning of next week."

Manchester United could be on the verge of losing two midfielders - Roy Keane and Michael Ballack - to Real Madrid, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Scot believes the Spaniards have already agreed a deal with his long-term target Ballack and suggested they were also close to acquiring Keane. Ferguson had identified Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Ballack as the ideal replacement for former United captain Keane, who left Old Trafford when his contract was terminated by "mutual consent" last month.
But, when asked about his chances of signing Ballack, the United boss told the Guardian: "I have heard he has signed for Real Madrid, that he has already agreed to join them. There is talk about Roy going there too for four months, January to May, and it's quite possible."

Sir Alex Ferguson is finally ready to start taking the burden off his young Manchester United stars.
The return of Gary Neville, Louis Saha and Ryan Giggs to the squad is confirmation the Red Devils' chronic injury crisis has eased. As United are about to embark on the busiest month of the season, Ferguson could not have chosen a better time for the trio to make their comebacks.
And Ferguson can also relieve the pressure which has been piled onto some of the most inexperienced members of his squad. He said: "We have come through a difficult period when we have asked young players to do the job of men. Morale has remained terrific and our training sessions have been good but now I have the opportunity to rest some of the young lads who have been carrying the burden for so long."
Midfielder Darren Fletcher is among those who might be asked to step down, allowing Alan Smith to partner Paul Scholes in central midfield.
John O'Shea may also get a short break, despite scoring in successive matches, as Neville's return - and installation as captain - may prompt Ferguson into a defensive reshuffle which could see Mikael Silvestre moved to left-back.
After winning their last three Premiership matches another victory is expected against a Portsmouth side struggling in the relegation zone and still waiting for the apparently inevitable return of Harry Redknapp as manager.
It is 1957 since the Fratton Park club last registered a win at Old Trafford and given their current turmoil it is difficult to see that run being broken, although Ferguson anticipates temporary boss, and former United striker, Joe Jordan will have Pompey primed for the task.
"Portsmouth are fighting for their lives and, no matter what else is going on, any team in that position should be focusing on the game," said Ferguson.
"Joe has the job of balancing all the things that have been said this week with making sure his team is prepared, which is not easy. But I expect they will play five across the midfield as they did at Liverpool recently and try to be hard to beat."

Northern Ireland on Saturday witnessed an extraordinary outpouring of grief and affection for soccer legend George Best as his funeral ceremony took place in Stormont's Parliament Buildings.
About 300 family, friends and leading figures from the worlds of sport, entertainment and politics gathered to pay tribute to the Manchester United and Northern Ireland soccer legend.
But there was also a remarkable send-off from thousands of people on the streets of Belfast for the European Cup winning player, with applause accompanying the cortege along the three-mile journey from the Best family home on the Cregagh estate to Stormont.
Flowers and scarves were also thrown at the funeral cortege along the route. About 32,000 people packed into the grounds of the Stormont estate to witness a piece of sporting history as Best was given a funeral normally reserved for heads of state.
At the request of the family, 10 people were plucked from the crowd outside parliament Buildings to join a star-studded congregation of mourners.
A minute's silence was held after the coffin arrived at the foot of Parliament Buildings, whose last funeral was that of Unionist Prime Minister Lord Craigavon in 1940. The coffin was carried into Parliament Buildings by former Northern Ireland and Manchester United team-mates to the sound of a piper's lament.
Former Northern Ireland manager Billy Bingham, international team-mates Derek Dougan, Peter McPartland, Harry Gregg, Gerry Armstrong and his close friend from the Manchester United squad Denis Law were the first to carry the coffin to the base of the Stormont steps.
Children from Best's childhood team Cregagh Rangers, formerly Cregagh Boys Club, dressed in their white kits, formed a guard of honour as members of the Best family including his father Dickie, son Calum and Calum's mother, George's first wife Angie, followed behind.
The coffin was draped in a Northern Ireland flag as it entered the marbled Great Hall of Parliament Buildings carried by his son Calum and agent, Phil Hughes. His father Dickie and sisters followed the coffin into the hall as Les Miserables star Peter Corry sang Bring Him Home from the hit musical.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson joined Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain and Irish Sports Minister John O'Donoghue among the mourners.

Roy Keane could be set to end speculation over his future by signing for Real Madrid.
Reports emanating from Spain claim Keane is close to signing a short-term deal at El Santiago Bernabeu and that he has even undergone a medical at the Spanish giants.
The Irishman has been weighing up his options after sensationally quitting Manchester United last month.
A host of clubs have been chasing the former Republic of Ireland international with Keane proving an attractive proposition because of his free transfer status.
Keane was thought to be holding out for a move to boyhood heroes Celtic, but it appears they are struggling to finance a deal for the midfielder.
Everton, Bolton, West Ham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough have all expressed an interest in him, but it appears Real are to win the race for his signature.
President Florentino Perez is believed to be a big fan of Keane and is ready to offer him a six-month deal until the end of the season with his position being reviewed at the end of the campaign.
Should Keane join Real he will link up again with former United team-mate David Beckham and his arrival would provide a massive lift for Real in the second half of the season as they battle for honours in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
